Melon, the popular Korean music platform, has officially launched the 'Global-K Chart,' a cross-border music chart that aggregates data from the three largest K-pop markets: South Korea (Melon), China (Tencent Music), and Japan (LINE MUSIC).
Going live on June 1, this is the only platform that combines verified streaming data with a "fan activity index" from all three countries into a single ranking system.
In this inaugural chart, aespa made history by securing the No. 1 spot across all categories—daily, weekly, and monthly (for May).
This success was driven by their second full-length album, 'Lemonade,' and their pre-release track "WDA (Whole Different Animal)," featuring G-Dragon.
Meanwhile, BTS held firmly in second place across all categories, supported by the impact of their fifth full-length album, 'Arirang,' released back in March.
The Global-K Chart initiative aims to provide a more accurate reflection of the true popularity of K-pop artists across these major Asian markets.
