Popular actor Kim Soo Hyun is reportedly set to resume his career, starting with a commercial shoot for the Philippine fashion brand Bench on July 14.
This marks his first official appearance after a year-long hiatus caused by controversy and legal battles.
The move is considered a significant turning point, as the trust shown by an international brand like Bench indicates that Kim Soo Hyun's public image is beginning to recover.
Previously, his career was severely impacted following false allegations made by Kim Se Ui, the head of the YouTube channel Garo Sero Institute, who claimed the actor had been in a relationship with the late Kim Sae Ron since she was a minor.
However, police investigations revealed that Kim Se Ui had manipulated evidence using generative AI technology to forge the late actress's voice and created fake KakaoTalk chat logs.
Consequently, Kim Se Ui was arrested on May 26 on multiple charges, including defamation, stalking, and attempted coercion.
The case has since been forwarded to the prosecution.
Although Kim Soo Hyun has begun returning to work, he still faces significant challenges regarding civil lawsuits.
He and his agency, Goldmedalist, are currently facing lawsuits totaling over 10 billion KRW (approximately 7.3 million USD) from several advertisers, including FromBio, Cuckoo, and Eider, who claim to have suffered losses due to the controversy.
The results of the criminal investigation, which proved his innocence, are expected to serve as the core argument in the civil proceedings scheduled to begin on June 10.
Industry insiders are closely watching to see if Kim Soo Hyun can fully clear his name and resume filming for his upcoming Disney+ series, Knock-Off, which was previously put on hold.
